Statistical and Quantitative Methods

Mid Terms (20%)
Final Grade: B+
The content was a build up from the JC statistics syllabus where you will learn
more continuous random variables such as F-distribution and Chi-square
distribution and many more. There will be a lot of emphasis on the various
types of hypothesis testing as well. It is very important for consistent
practice on the tutorials and past year exam questions during the revision of
the final examination. The class participation mainly involved answering
questions during tutorials and attempting several in-lecture quizzes and excel
exercises. I feel that the final examination was quite tough. I left quite a
fair bit of questions blank. ;(

This is an interesting yet dry module. We learnt about individual behaviours in
organisations, group and social processes and organisational process. Both the
creative and critical thinking assignments are largely unrelated to the course
and requires extensive research on your part. The assignments has actually
taught me how to write academic essays at a college level which has been
helpful for my other modules. It would be good to clarify any doubts you have
on the assignments with your tutors and I feel that their feedback has been
really useful. However, bear in mind that the instructors could only clarify
your doubts on the requirements of the marking rubrics and would not provide
any comments on your draft work. As for the team presentation, it is just a
case study practice where your team presents the team's idea to the seminar
group. I find the final examination demanding though as it requires an
extensive understanding of all the main concepts in the syllabus.

Well, this module is largely similar to the H2 Economics syllabus except that
it is rather less in depth and has a wide coverage of topics. There are new
topics that were not covered during JC which were consumption possibilities and
common resources (microeconomics) and finance and money (macroeconomics). Those
who have achieved A grade for H2 Economics during A Levels are able to exempt
from this module and yet fulfil the AU requirements for this particular CORE
module requirement (Free 3AUs). I didn't knew that there was such an exemption
till somewhere in the middle of the semester.

Individual Reflection Paper (A+)
Final Grade: A
This is one of the modules that requires A LOT OF WORK! To
start off with, you have a choice to choose whether to do participate in
marketing experiments or the individual critique paper to fulfil your 5%. I've opted
for the marketing experiments where you'll have to enrol yourself in several
experiments to aid the professors/researchers in their marketing research. It's
easy and definitely takes less effort compared to writing a critique in my
opinion. The individual reflection paper is a 5 page essay on what you've
learnt from the course. What I find it troublesome would be the team report and
class participation where you'll have to meet up with your team more than once
per week to work on your weekly tutorial case presentation and marketing report
concurrently. The final examination was really direct and test on your
applications of your marketing concept given product and context.
AB1402 Foundational Excel
Course Format:
Online exercises
Final Grade: Pass
This module is fully online where you are able to access it and learn during
your free time. You'll just have to complete the required quizzes within the
stipulated deadline. It's a 7 week course though and it teaches you the various
excel formulas and functions that will be useful in the future.
